14 Feb 1845 Commissioned Assistant Surgeon 45th (Nottinghamshire) Regiment of Foot, vice Assistant Surgeon Charles Bush Hearn who replaced Alexander Brown Cleland on the Staff.
Mar 1845 Joined the Reserve Battalion 45th Regt at Gibraltar and proceeded to Monte Video in medical charge of the battalion during the siege of the city by the Argentine army.
Apr 1846–May 1847 Served in the 7th Kaffir Campaign.
1850 Served in the 8th Kaffir War in medical charge of the 45th Regt during the campaign of 1851–53.
5 May 1854 Staff Surgeon 2nd Class vice Alexander Gibb appointed to the Depot Battalion at Walmer.
4 Sep 1857 Surgeon 3rd (East Kent-The Buffs) Regiment of Foot.
Malta 28 Apr 1858 Arrived from England.
Malta 28 July 1859 On leave to England.
16 Nov 1859 Returned to Malta from leave.
Malta 26 July 1860 Returned to England.
14 Aug 1860 Staff Surgeon.
12 Jan 1861 PMO Malta stated that he was "A good officer".
13 Feb 1863 Surgeon 90th (Perthshire Volunteers-Light Infantry) Regiment.
