2 May 1900 Granted local rank of colonel whilst PMO of a Division, Field Force South Africa. Principal Medical Officer 14th General Hospital. Present at the Relief of Ladysmith, including operations of 5 to 7 Feb 1900, and action at Vaal Kranz; operations on Tugela Heights (14 to 27 Feb 1900), and action at Pieter's Hill; and operations in Transvaal (May and June 1900). He received mention in the dispatches of Sir R H Buller (19 June and 9 Nov 1900), 8 Feb 1901, and 29 July 1902.
26 June 1902Lt Colonel RAMC under Article 365 Pay Warrant.
4 Apr 1906 Colonel.
1 July 1909 Placed on retired pay.
1914 Re-employed during the Great War.
