7 June 1850 Assistant Surgeon 23rd (Royal Welsh Fusiliers) Regiment of Foot.
16 May 1851 Staff Surgeon 2nd Class.
14 Oct 1851 Appointed Surgeon 72nd (Duke of Albany's Own Highlanders) Regiment of Foot.
5 Jan 1855 Arrived at Malta on the Neptune with the 72nd (Duke of Albany's Own Highlanders).
22 May 1855 Left for Turkey. Served in the Crimean War as surgeon of the 72nd Highlanders. He was present with the expedition to Kertch, the siege and fall of Sebastopol, and the attack on June 18th.
1856 Returned from the Crimea.
1857–58 Served in the Indian Mutiny as surgeon of the 72nd Highlanders. He was present at the siege and capture of Kotah, being present with the leading column of assault on 30 Mar 1858, and subsequently throughout the operations in Central India and the pursuit of Tantia Topee and Rao Sahib.
16 Feb 1861 Surgeon-Major 72nd Foot.
23 Mar 1866 Surgeon Staff.
10 July 1866 Retired with rank of Deputy Inspector General.
