Dr Matthew Joseph Ryan of Killinure County Limerick qualified a Licentiate of the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland in 1864 and a Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh in 1864.
He entered the Army Medical Department in March 1866 and died at Kinsale County Cork on 10 March 1882.
15 Dec 1864 Registered with the General Council of Medical Education.
31 Mar 1866 Commissioned Staff Assistant Surgeon.
1866 – 1869 Served in Jamaica.
1870 On duty in Bandon Co. Cork, Ireland.
Feb 1871 Posted to Madras.
Feb 1872 Change of station from Madras to Dungarnon, Waterford.
1873 Change of station from Dungarnon, Waterford to Templemore Co. Tipperary.
22 Nov 1873 Reduced to half-pay.
13 June 1874 Restored to full-pay and posted to Youghal Co. Cork Ireland.
10 Oct 1874 Arrived from Ireland.
1875 On garrison duty.
1876 On garrison duty.
1877 On garrison duty.
17 July 1878 Returned to England sick.
22 Oct 1878 Promoted Surgeon-Major having completed twelve years' full-pay service.
Jan 1879 Moved to Dublin.
1879 – 1882 On duty in Kinsale Co. Cork.
10 Mar 1882 Died in Kinsale Co. Cork Ireland.
