Assistant Surgeon James Lamont was the son of Assistant Commissary General Lamont. He qualified in Edinburgh in 1852 and entered the Army Medical Department soon after.

23 Dec 1852 Acting Assistant Surgeon.

7 Jan 1853 Appointed Assistant Surgeon 41st (The Welsh) Regiment of Foot, vice Assistant Surgeon David Stewart who became surgeon 3rd Foot.

Mar 1853 Arrived at Malta.

10 Apr 1854 Left on board the transport Himalaya for Turkey.

5 Jan 1855 Died of slow fever at Inkerman, Crimea.
