16 Dec 1899 Returned to England and thence to South Africa.
1899–1900 Served in the South African War with the Eighth Division. He was present during the operations in the Orange River Colony, including the actions at Biddulphsberg and Witteberger and in Cape Colony south of the Orange River.
4 Feb 1902 Lieutenant Colonel.
15 Oct 1902 Retired.
