Surgeon Major Vere Edward Hunter was the eldest son of Brigade-Surgeon G Y Hunter, of the Bombay Army.

3 Feb 1883 Surgeon.
29 June 1891 Reduced to half-pay.
18 Aug 1891 Restored to full-pay.
25 Mar 1895 Surgeon-Major.
24 Sep 1896 Arrived from Portsmouth England.
Jan 1897 On duty at Cottonera Hospital.
2 Mar 1897 Left for Madras.
In his confidential report of 1897, the PMO reported that: "he is perpetually sick and not to be dependent on. He is unfit for Tropical service, and only fit for a very small station where duties are very light and under a senior".
2 Mar 1903 Died at Bombay on March 2nd, aged 45.
