21 Jan 1807 Appointed Hospital Mate.

21 Jan 1807 – 17 Feb 1807 On duty in England.

18 Feb 1807 – 10 Nov 1809 Served in the Mediterranean, including Sicily, Malta, Calabria, and Gibraltar.

Malta 1808 Arrived at Malta, but is not listed in the returns of the officers of the hospitals attached to the forces in Malta from 25 June to 24 Dec 1808 inclusive.

17 Nov 1809 Appointed Assistant Surgeon 4th Dragoons.

11 Nov 1809 – 6 July 1811 On duty in England.

7 July 1811 – 20 May 1813 Served in the Peninsular War.

He was present at the action before Sabugal in Portugal (3 April 1811), the storming of Ciudad Rodrigo and Badajoz

21 May 1813 – 24 Feb 1825 On duty in England.

By letter dated 18 April 1820, received the approbation and thanks of the Director General of the Medical Department Sir James McGrigor and of Sir William Franklin for the talents and industry displayed in his reports of the medical instructions for his regiment (4th Dragoons) for December 1819.

Aug 1822 Took the MD Diploma of the University of Edinburgh

24 Feb 1825 Appointed Surgeon 97th (The Earl of Ulster's) Regiment of Foot.

25 Feb 1825 – 16 May 1827 On duty in Ceylon.

17 May 1827 – 20 Nov 1828 On duty in England.

Nov 1828 Became a Licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians of London.

21 Nov 1828 Retired to half-pay surgeon 97th Regiment.
