10 Dec 1855 Left for Turkey and the Crimea.
10 Dec 1855 Left for Turkey and the Crimea. Served in the trenches during the earlier bombardment of Sebastopol.
22 Nov 1856 Serving at the General Hospital Dublin. Applied to be awarded the Sardinian Medal in the Crimea.
Sardinian Army before Sebastopol: Staff Assistant Surgeon William Carte rendered immediate assistance to a party of Sardinian soldiers who were wounded by the bursting of a shell, thereby the life of one of them was saved. Col Cardogan Col on the Staff attached to the Sardinian Army, was requested by General De LaMarmara to send in the name of this officer to him in order that he might convey his sense of obligation to the proper authorities in the fullest manner.
13 Aug 1858 Appointed Physician and Surgeon Royal Hospital Kilmainham with the local rank of Staff Surgeon, on the retirement of Physician and Surgeon James William Macaulay. The vacancy in 4th Light Dragoons was filled by the promotion of Staff Assistant Surgeon John Charles Campbell.
