14 Feb 1828 Hospital Assistant.
9 Nov 1830 Recalled from half-pay and appointed Assistant Surgeon to the Forces vice Cowan who was promoted to 46th Foot.
12 July 1833 Assistant Surgeon 60th (Duke of York's Own Rifle Corps).
11 Aug 1834 Absent without leave. The 60th Regiment arrived at Malta on 24 Nov 1834.
28 Oct 1836 Staff Assistant Surgeon.
21 Apr 1843 Appointed Staff Surgeon of the 2nd Class, vice Staff Surgeon of the 2nd Class John Wardrop Moore, who succeeded Surgeon Michael Fogerty St Helena Regiment. The vacancy on the Staff created by the promotion of Odell, was filled by Assistant Surgeon James Gordon Inglis 87th Foot.
9 June 1843 Promoted Surgeon 19th (1st Yorkshire, North Riding) Regiment of Foot, vice Surgeon James Young appointed Surgeon 13th Light Dragoons, on the retirement of Surgeon David Perston to half-pay. Consequently, Staff Assistant Surgeon Peter Daly Murray was promoted Staff Surgeon of the 2nd Class vice Odell.
3 Mar 1854 Staff Surgeon 1st Class.
15 May 1862 Retired to half-pay with the honorary rank of Deputy Inspector General.
