Surgeon Ralph Edon (St Mary's Church Masham).

Surgeon Ralph Edon was the son of Mary Cundall and Ralph Edon. He was born in Fearby, a village two miles west of Masham North Yorkshire, and was baptised at Sy Mary's Church Masham on 7 March. (Info. courtesy M. Hauxwell).

Surgeon Edon died on 3 March 1828 aged 48 years and was buried at St Mary's church Masham.

Service Record

21 June 1803 Gentleman Ralph Edon was appointed Lieutenant and Assistant Surgeon Hereford Regiment of Militia.

1 July 1803 Commissioned Lieutenant Hereford Regiment of Militia. Commissions in the Militia were signed by the Lord Lieutenant.

22 Sep 1808 Promoted Assistant Surgeon 35th (Sussex) Regiment of Foot.

Assistant Surgeon Ralph Edon was serving in the Herefordshire Militia when he was appointed Assistant Surgeon 35th Foot vice Assistant Surgeon William Cowan, superseded for being absent without leave.

1809 Served in Walcheren.

17 Aug 1815 Promoted Surgeon 35th (Sussex) Regiment of Foot vice James Dillon Tully who was promoted to Staff Surgeon.

Malta Aug 1816 Arrived at Malta.

Malta 1817 Served with his regiment as Surgeon 35th Foot.

25 Nov 1821 Moved on to the half pay list through Exchange with Surgeon William Munro half-pay 8th West India Regiment.
