18 Aug 1806 – 8 Sep 1806 On duty in England.

9 Sep 1806 – 25 Dec 1807 On duty in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

26 Dec 1807 – 7 July 1808 On duty in England.

7 July 1808 Appointed Assistant Surgeon 20th (East Devonshire) Regiment of Foot.

8 July 1808 – 10 Apr 1809 Served in the Peninsular War with 20th Regiment.

11 Apr 1809 – 12 Dec 1812 On duty in England.

13 Dec 1812 – 6 July 1814 Served in the Peninsular War initially with 20th Regiment.

Was present as Assistant Surgeon 20th Regiment at the Battle of Vimeiro (21 Aug 1808), and all the actions in the Pyrenees in which the 20th took part (25 July to 2 Aug 1813).

9 Sep 1813 Became Surgeon 1st/28th (North Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot.

Oct 1813 – 6 July 1814 Served in the Peninsular War with 1st/28th Regiment. He was present at the Battles of Nivelle (10 Nov 1813), Nive (9 to 13 Dec 1813), Orthez (2 Feb 1814), and Toulouse (10 Apr 1814).

7 July 1814 – 20 June 1815 On duty in England.

21 June – 21 Dec 1815 Served in Belgium.

22 Dec 1815 – 17 Dec 1817 On duty in England.

18 Dec 1817 – 3 Apr 1820 On duty in Corfu.

Malta 1818 Arrived at Malta.

Mar 1818 Left for the Ionian Islands.

28 Apr 1819 Retired to half-pay of 71st Foot. He was replaced by Surgeon Samuel Crosier Roe, 55th Foot, who became surgeon 28th Foot.

30 Apr 1819 Took charge of the invalids form Corfu.

4 Apr 1820 – 8 Oct 1823 Placed on the half-pay list.

9 Oct 1823 Became Surgeon 24th (2nd Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot, vice Surgeon Jonathan Featherston 24th Foot who retired to half-pay.

9 Oct 1823 – 29 July 1829 On duty in England.

30 July 1829 – 3 Nov 1832 On duty in Canada.

4 Nov 1832 – 2 Apr 1835 On duty in England.

3 Apr 1835 Retired to half-pay. Surgeon John Shortt 79th Foot became surgeon 24th Foot vice Byrtt.

9 Oct 1845 Died aged 59 years. A memorial tablet is at Christ Church Belfast.
