1929–1930 Specialist in Medicine Military Hospital Edinburgh.

1930–1932 Served in India.

29 July 1932 Retired and went into practice at Haddington, East Lothian. He rejoined the service on 2 Sept 1939, at the outbreak of war.

1939–1940 Assistant Director of Medical Services at Rennes with the British Expeditionary Force, until three weeks after the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940.

1947 Member of the Lothians and Peebles Local Medical Committee from its inception in 1947. Member of the board of management of the East Lothian hospitals.

1949–1950 Chairman Lothians Division British Medical Association.

1952–1954 President of the Edinburgh and south-east of Scotland Branch British Medical Association.

22 Feb 1956 Died in a motor vehicle accident aged 62 years. Buried at St Mary's graveyard Haddington.
