Major Douglas James Stirling Armstrong was the son of Dr William Hunter Stirling and Beatrice Joan Armstrong, of Glasgow.

27 Jan 1941 Arrived to take over command of Field Hygiene Section from Captain J Baxter RAMC. Hygiene specialist. Officer Commanding No 57 Field Hygiene Section, with its HQ located at St John's Ditch Valletta.
24 Sep 1942 Officer Commanding No 57 Field Hygiene Section.
9 Sep 1942 Admitted to 45 General Hospital St Patricks. Died in hospital on 24 September aged 26 years. Was interred at Pembroke Military Cemetery St Andrews.
